What You Need to Open a New ECU Account

You must be at least 18 years old to open an account. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18. Please inquire about required documents for opening a $mart Start Savings Youth Account by calling 806-358-7777.

Required items:
  • Valid government issued ID with your current physical address*

  • Social Security number

  • Savings account opening deposit: $5 plus a one-time $1 membership fee**

*If your address is not current on your ID bring one of the following to verify your current physical address: current utility bill, pay stub, letter from employer, lease/rental agreement, school report card, or voter registration card.

**A savings account is required for all memberships. The membership fee is a one-time fee. You must be eligible for membership. See qualifications below.

Education Credit Union Membership Qualifications (Who Can Join)

You may be eligible for ECU membership if you are:
  • An employee of any public, private, or parochial school, college, or university**

  • A student of any public, private, or parochial school, college, or university**

  • An individual holding a valid Texas teaching certificate

  • A homeschooler**

  • An individual holding a valid Texas teaching certificate

  • A retiree receiving retirement or pension due to employment by an organization in the field of membership

  • A member of Canyon ISD Council PTA, Amarillo ISD Council PTA, WTAMU Alumni Association, or Bushland ISD Council PTA

  • A certified daycare worker in Potter and Randall counties

  • A spouse of an eligible person who died while in the field of membership

  • An employee of District 4 of the Texas Department of Transportation*

  • A blood or legal relative of anyone eligible for membership

  • Anyone living, working, attending church, or attending school within 10 miles of any ECU location
